If something is shot on Varicam with 60 frames flagged, and you ingest that into an Avid 1080/59.94i project, does field 1 originate from the same frame as field 2 or do the fields come from adjacent frames?

Depends on which versions of the software and hardware- so my rule is

if you do it in hardware the higher end systems capture one interlaced field per frame.

the software conversions are often not so kind.

Thankyou for your reply Garry but what I meant was, How does the 1400 DVCPRO deck make the 1080i fields when the cross convert is set to output 720p tapes as 1080i. Does field 1 originate from frame 1 and field 2 from frame 2 (of the 60 fagged varicam frames)?

Sorry, my original question wasn’t very well structured.
