After Effects tries to show 9, but if you are asking it to do a lot of rendering on an underpowered system, it will fall back to showing as many as it can. The more complex the composition that you are working with, the fewer tiles can be rendered.

Consider that this feature is asking After Effects to render 9 compositions in real time, so it’s not surprising that sometimes it struggles.

Fractal Noise is an especially taxing effect, and Glow is rather render-intensive, too.

BTW, why aren’t you using the Turbulent Noise effect? It was created to replace Fractal Noise; it’s nearly identical and much faster.

My system has 32 gb ram, gtx 670, i7 3770K, ssd+hdd. Do you think this is underpowered for this kind of task?

I selected the effects randomly just to learn how Brainstorm works. But it is good to know Turbulent Noise is better. Thanks.

Regardless of the subject, do you have any AE full-course other than the ones with Angie? I find your lessons quite informative and easy to understand but they are rare. I hope you make more courses and make them alone. :}

The effects that you applied are very computationally expensive, so even a good CPU is going to struggle to render 9 instances of them in real time. The RAM, GPU, and disk drive don’t matter for these effects.
