  • variable speed bug when redig with media manager

FCP ver 5 and variable speed is still a prob.

With most of our work being long form digibeta and HDcam we are dig’g in lores and then using media manager “create offline” to bring the edit to full res at the end of the project.

During the edit we add a lot of variable speed ramps etc.
Duiring the online process when we “create offline” with media manager new clips are created in a new project etc. and the variable speed edits now have ther own little clips with jagged edges….cool!

But it’s hit and miss. About 50% of them don’t work. When redigitizing they are digitizing duration that have no resemblance to the clip logging info… hence they can’t be digitized. Some are wanting to digitize several minutes when should only be dig’g a few secs. the actual clips in the timeline sometimes have been cut to reveal gaps in the timeline.

This is an on going prob and re-occurs in all of our projects on all of our suites.

Is there a fix in the works or even a work around as manually reediting all of these ramps can take hours.

    best regards
    Daryl

Report this in the feedback to Apple… sounds a lot like a bug to me…

Speed changed clips have been a problem with FCP since day one unfortunately and it’s still not addressed in FCP 5. The best advice I can give you is to ensure that you do NOT delete the original media on all the speed changed clips. Put every single clip into a new timeline so you have all your speed changes in one timeline for easy reference.

Then you can simply do a Copy on the original clip and a Paste Attributes on the newly redigized clips.
