Variable Speed
Posted by James Mcintyre on May 8, 2009 at 4:31 pmHi there,
I’m trying to create a very simple speed effect – starting a shot on a freeze frame and ramping it smoothly up to 100 percent speed. Is there an easy way of doing this?? In Avid there is a simple drop on effect to achieve this but I’m getting lost in the fc system of keyframing.
Thanks

I love that you left in the little unexpected moments of reality that occurred during it.

May 8, 2009 at 4:41 pmRead the chapter on variable speed changes in FCP6 help, beginning on page 345 .
It explains it better than I ever could and its essential that you understand whats going on. Once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. There are several ways to do it, so you’ll have to determine what works best for you. There is no simple drag and drop effect, I am afraid.

May 8, 2009 at 5:29 pmGreat tutorial! Thanks Shane (or Capt’n Mench…)!! The trouble I was having was where I expected – the handles making it impossible to properly change the parameters. It’s much clearer now. Thanks!

May 9, 2009 at 7:29 amOne thing I haven’t quite figured out is why you woulld need to export and then reimport the subclip before affecting it for online (recapturing) reasons?? I will be recapturing my media later so is this step absolutely necessary for maintaining edl information??
Thanks
