It is my understanding that the BMD products try to do this in software, which is slower (or much slower depending on the flavor of your computer) than the hardware that the kona cards handle this function with, hence the issue of not being able to handle the flagged frame removal of the VFR data in real time
The Kona cards are also tested so that when converting to DVCPROHD from the HDSDI stream the signal matches the direct digital transfer of the bits from tape over the FW bus. They also offer hardware scaling of the DVCPROHD and HDV native codecs, realtime down convert on all boards as well as up-conversion on the Kona 2 in addition to up and cross conversion ( 720 > x < 1080) and true 2K with DPX support on the Kona 3 card. gary adcock Studio37 HD & Film Consultation Post and Production Workflows Chicago, IL
