value form live type characters?
Im wondering if theres any way to grab some sort of value based on how many characters you put in a text box, for example to be used to scale a shape layer based on amount of characters.

This will give you the number of characters in a text layer:
thisComp.layer(“My Text Layer”).text.sourceText.length
You could use that to drive the size of your shape layer. If you need something more accurate, I think you’re stuck with the sampleImage() hack (there should be several examples of it posted here somewhere).

Thats great thanks! i was worried that sampling image would be the only way.
