I started a new project with four tracks. The top track is mask and the other 3 tracks show through various regions of the mask. I saved this project and added the project as a single clip to the timeline of a rather large project I’m working on. My preview went down to just about zip. I’ve got dual 3 GHz processors with 2 GB of RAM. I know the machine has to work harder to display with nested projects, but this performance seems unreasonable. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?

This is a (Sony) recognized issue with preview performance when using nested vegs. The posts by Sony on another forum described the issue as being related to the original (nested) Vegs project quality settings. You basically have to change the quality settings for the nested project veg to be “draft” or “Preview” rather than “Good” or “Best”. They acknowledged this as being a bug and they have added it to their list of things to fix.

So… the workaround right now is to change the quality settings for all the nested vegs you will be using while you are in “edit” mode and when you do your final project render to go back in and modify all those Vegs to have the “proper” quality setting you want to use.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks! I actually found it easier in this instance to prerender that short section of the project.

    Mary,

Have you noticed the option to save project info in the rendered file?

Try going to the project you want to nest and rendering it with this setting turned on. Then you can drop the rendered file into the master timeline. If you need to change it you can right click the event and open up the parent project. You’ll have to render again of course.

It’s a half measure, but it’s something. And it might be a little more convenient in the long haul.
