    Dear all

    First time poster, regular watcher.

I just upgraded to Movie Studio 14.0 Platinum. I tried to import .MTS files, but came up with “An error occurred while opening one or more files. The file is an unsupported format”.

Under Details, I get the message “The file contains an unsupported number of channels (6)”. I’m presuming this is surround sound (although I only require 2 channels of sound – I could convert the file but would prefer not to as all of my devices record to this format).

I am still able to import the same files on Movie Studio 13.0 Platinum on the same computer without a problem.

Is there something in v14.0 that will never be compatible with 6 channel audio, or does anyone know a fix? If there is no known fix, I will reluctantly have to stay with v 13.0 (there are some additional features on 14.0 that are quite useful to me)

I’m running it on Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, 32 GB RAM.

    Any help most appreciated!

[Max Singer] “I am still able to import the same files on Movie Studio 13.0 Platinum on the same computer without a problem.”

Sounds like a bug. You might want to report it to MAGIX.

    Yes, that’s a reported bug.

There are two workarounds to overcome.

    1. If Movie Studio 13 is available, import these files with MS13, save the project file, open the project with VMS14 and save again. Now in this certain new VMS14 project the 5.1 files will work.

    2. If the original folder structure of the video files or the SD card where the files are stored are still available, import into VMS14 using the Device Explorer. Save project again and the files work within this project.

I’ve also had this problem. I wonder if there’s an ETA on a fix, seems like a huge issue.

I don’t have the option of importing the files with MS13.

Thank you everyone – in case any one else is looking for a response from MAGIX, I got this today:

Thank you for contacting Magix Support.

The good news is that this is a confirmed bug with Movie Studio 14 Platinum and is to be addressed in a future update.

The bad news is that there isn’t a work around to this issue in the software itself. So you would have to wait until the update hits before this issue could be resolved.

I just ran into the same issue and used the v13 workaround. Although I am able to edit the footage, rendering it with 5.1 Surround just creates white noise as audio. If I render it with just a stereo channel, it works fine. There is more to this story I am afraid and made note of it to Magix.

I just ran into the same issue. The application is completely un-usable for me, because all my footage is the same format.
Really a bad start for Magix I recently ordered the upgrade.. and just found out this issue is already known for more than a month and unclear when a fix becomes available.

Magix gave me the following timeframe:
“This should be resolved in a future update to the software set for mid to late April”

Lets see if this holds true.

I have received a similar timeframe …. end of april begin may. I was not amused.. this is core fucntionality and not an intermittent or difficult to reproduce problem. It means theit QA (if any) is poor. Until now I never bought any Magix products, several received as demo over the years, but I always categorized it as toys. I hope they are able to make the step up now they bought Vegas from Sony….otherwise I have to look for alternatives. And subscription based like Adobe is for me definately a no-go.
