  using xha1 as external mic w/ FCP

  Hey folks,
  I’ve used a professional mic connected through my camcorder as a pre-amp before in order to record narration with the voice over tool in Final Cut Pro. Was trying to set my XHA1 up for this purpose today, and whenever I try to select “DV Audio” in the Voice Over Tool pulldown, I get the following message:

  “The selected sound input device is unavailable. It may be in use by another application, disconnected, or improperly connected, or may be conflicting with a video output device.”

  I’ve been troubleshooting this for a while, and here’s what I’ve tried:
  1. The camcorder is in record mode, connected to a firewire port with no other firewire devices connected to my mac.
  2. No other programs are running when I attempt this.
  3. I’ve switched “External Video” to “Off” in the View menu as recommended in the FCP manual.

  I feel like the problem must be in settings somewhere, either on my camera or in FCP. Any suggestions out there. I’d much appreciate some help.
