    hi all

im having a bit of a panic, at college i made a 4.5 min animation in after effects and cut it together in fcp. recently i have been approched to use the animation as a music video, requiring it to be re cut and some of the animations re-rendered. thats not the problem (and i have th bags under my eyes to vouch for it)

but something has clicked. before, the animation was designed to be played at my end of course show on an emac, and now the video is going to be broadcast. the problem is that most the animation is on a white background

not having done anything for broadcast, i am now reading about broadcast safe levels and luminances and its kinda scareing me as i do not have to the time to redo all the scenes.

    so my questions are:

is using solid white a problem? if so is there a quick and dirty trick to use

one idea was to use after effects to have the video being “projected” onto a surface thus not required to be at its full whiter than white

any help would be appreaciated, thanks

    ds

Use Color Correct 3-way filter in FCP.

FCP also has a Broadcast Safe filter and what us old farts are use to, the Procamp filter.

Most people start with the Color Correct 3-way and bring down the highlights and make other adjustments as necessary.

You need to learn how to read a Waveform/Vectorscope right there available in FCP.

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…

    PowerBook 1.67 Ghz ATI 9700 128 MB 2 GB
    Final Cut Pro HD
    DVD Studio Pro 3
    Motion

    Sam,
As long as your white does not exceed R=235, G=235, and B=235 your should be o.k. Display the animation in the FCP waveform monitor and verify that the whites don’t exceed 100%. If so you can either adjust the background in AE or add a filter such as Proc Amp or Three Way Color to adjust the max level.

    Good luck,

    Lee
