I am getting a WD 500GB USB2 HD to use for my laptop Any advice on how well it will work and any caveats aside from formatting to NTFS that I will have to be aware of?
I have CS2 Production studio and will shortly be getting CS3 upgrade
My Computer is an Acer Aspire with centrino duo 1.6Ghz 1gbDDR RAM(should I ad more RAM?), ATI1400 w/512 video RAM, 100GB HD and 4 USB2 as well as 1 firewire import, My desk top was built for Editing with 3 160GB HDs, 1gb Ram, 128GB Video RAM, Canopus Storm2Ultra , 3.06 P4, 4 USB and 3 firewire. Both systems are XPpro Should i just stick with editing on the desk top?

I know many folks, including one on a Storm system that use external USB drives without issue other than changing drive letters when moving from one computer to another.

My first set up was a Toshiba Satellite with a USB 2.0 drive. I eventually used A 500 gb WD My Book Pro after I outgrew my 250 GB drive. It worked fine for multicam SD projects with full elements without a hitch. I have edited 50 30 minute shows using this set up, or an alternate using a PC with the same My Book. It is not sexy and a little old school but it is portable. The hardest thing for me is the WD software can be a pain, sometimes it wont see the drive without a reboot. My 250 GB simple tech drive was just plug n play whenever I plug it in. There is a Mybook premium (ES edition???) or something that has a dual interface USB 2.0 and Esata II. That seems pretty nice and may be my next travel drive….
