  • using time code generator to superimpose on screen

I’m trying to learn how to extend the footage on the screen before the time code generator superimposes the time code on the screen. As I go to effects, video and TCG, the Time code counter begins right at the head of the video clip.

I have several takes of a vehicle making a left hand turn. I want to show how many seconds & Frames it takes to complete the turn each time. First however, I need to establish the vehicle coming to a stop in the turn lane and then have the TCG start to establish the counter time supered on the screen.

Do I have to do a match-frame edit for each take in order to have the video clip on the screen before adding the the time code generator?

Because the video may be played in a court room, I am hesitant to compromise the video. Any advise?
    Thanks, Stevan

In my FCP 5.1.4 the TCG starts at whatever clip I put it on. So, if you put in a seperate clip in front of the one you need the counter on you should be fine.

To add to Joseph’s solid answer, you can just slice the clip where you want the tc generator to start and add it to the second part. If the filter is already on the clip, simply make the slice where you want it to start and then delete the filter from the first part.

    Make sense?
