  • Using TIFF sequences in FCP?

Posted by Steve Price on May 15, 2008 at 1:25 am

    Good morning Cowers,

    Am I doing this right?

I’ve shot some sequences with a Phantom HD camera at 2048 x 1080 @ 1000 frames-per-second. That bit went fine.

I have the RAW picture cine files stored on hard drive. Using the Phantom software I’ve converted the RAW sequences into TIFF files, also at 2048 x 1080.

I then put the entire folder of TIFFs into my FCP timeline, with the preferences set to 1 frame duration for each TIFF.

Then I exported the sequence as an uncompressed QuickTime file to use in my edit.

It seems to have worked fine, but it all seems a bit too simple really. Keep thinking I must be missing something.

Does anyome have any tips for using TIFF sequences in FCP?

    Thanks,

    Steve.

    You’re pretty close.

    Here’s what I’d do:

1- Export the .tiff sequence from the Phantom software as you’ve been doing.

2- Open the .tiff sequence in Quicktime Pro (shift-command-o to open an image sequence).

3- Export from QT using settings that exactly match the timeline settings you want to use.

4- Import into FCP & edit into your timeline.

5- Have a nice coffee, espresso or cappuccino, you’ve earned it!

    Thank you Arnie,

I’ve tried it and it’s working very well – playback seems to be a bit smoother this way too.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

    Hi

I did a shoot on friday with a Photron SA1 which shoots loads of TIFFs, When i try and open the TIFF sequence in Quicktime pro the fastest frame rate i can choose is only 60fps!

I shot at 2000fps so does anyone know how i change the settings. I will be editing using FCP.

    Cheers

    Lee
