Hello. Can I not use a thunderbolt to firewire adapter on 2010 Macbook Pro? I am trying to connect a Lacie 2Big external drive. It will only mount with USB cable. I am running OS X 10.8.5

    Thank you.

I’ve never seen a Firewire-to-Thunderbolt Adapter? Can you point me to one?

There are Thunderbolt-to-Firewire adapters but I don’t believe that you can go the other way.

Considering that your 2010 MacBook Pro only has USB 2.0 I’d say it’s time for a new Mac because that’s going to be far too slow unless you are just using it to store archived files.

Thanks John. Yes, I did make the decision last night to go ahead and buy a new computer….heading out it little while to make the purchase. Leaning toward getting MacPro, but initially was thinking of getting MacBook Pro. Still kind of on the fence.

I guess it all depends on if you need the portability of a laptop or not. The new Mac Pro is quite impressive but it does chain you to a desk and the MacBook Pro is quite a capable laptop so I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Good Luck!
