  • Using sound keys and CC pixel polly

Posted by Nathan on January 16, 2006 at 3:58 am

(I posted this in the trapcode forum too, only because I am not sure if it is AE issue or a SoundKeys issue).

I am trying to use Sound Keys with CC Pixel polly to break apart a logo on sound cue then bring it back as the sound dies. I am using a large bass sounds with subs. The logo breaks apart as suspected. But as the sound dies I would like it to go back to normal or the original position. Right now I have the force value looking at the correct sound keys value per the capture area. I am relatively new to AE and followed the example from the trapcode site. Could someone please help me? Any help is appreciated.

Pixel Polly animation is based on velocity, it’s pretty tricky to return it to the original state.
I would use time-remap on a precomped Pixel Polly instead.

Just duplicate your layer with the effect on it and press alt+control+R, this will time reverse the animation. Basically the same thing as putting -100% in the strech column, but it respects the IN point of the layer. It is a little bit more tricky if you wanted the animation to match to music.
Here is an idea that might work, time out the music that you want the animation to be too, that is know exactly at what time do you want the action to take place. Time reverse it, do the sound keys, now do the main animation from those sound keys, time reverse the main animation. It is really convulted logic, but it just might work. Hope this helps

Would this still work with sound keys? Also is there a better plugin or method to do what i am trying? Basically I want the logo to seems to be made up of sand particles that are disrupted when the large boom sounds then form back.

Also I notice that sound keys totally blows the logo apart and it seems there is no way to control it from doing that, any ideas? I will try these solutions as well.

I would try using time remapping first. You shouldn’t have any problem doing sound synchronization with absolute frames (compared to velocity, which is pretty tricky).
With timeremapping you won’t have any problem returning the polygons to the original state. A value of zero will do that.
