  • using sequences in multiple projects

I have built a sequence (Show Opening) in a project for the month of March, however I want to be able to use this sequence in future shows which will be set up as their own projects.

I have a Folder on our server labeled “MASTER” that I have other elements (music, logos, title templates ect.) that I pull from for each months show.

Is there a way I can get my (Show Opening) Sequence into that “MASTER” folder.

And will it show me the different elements within the sequence or will it be mixed down into all one layer?

    Thanks

Maybe not the best way, but here’s how we handle that very issue…

Save the current ‘March project’ into your Master folder as “Show Opening.prproj”.

Open that project and delete all sequences except the ‘Show Opening’ sequence. Also delete all media not associated with that sequence.

Import “Show Opening.prproj” into any other project that you need it in.

Or simply output the opening as an uncompressed file and import it into any subsequent projects as needed.

One variation on Steve’s suggestion is to use the Project Manager to trim things down for a saved copy of the project.

This works well if you don’t need to make changes to the ‘Show Opening’ sequence. It also takes up extra drive space, which may or may not be an issue for you.

But be careful…using Project Manager to trim a project and remove unused media can eliminate assets that you may want to have handy later on. For instance, if there are media assets that you may need to change out for future episodes that you use the Show Opening, but don’t happen to be actually on the timeline at the moment, they’ll disappear from the Project Panel, and you’ll have to go looking for them the next time you need them.
