Using Quicktime clips with Avid Media Composer 3.0
Hello all, I’m usually working in FCP and did capture a bunch of clips as Quicktime movies. Unluckily, I have to edit them on an Avid rental system which I am only little used to. Importing the QT Files into Avid takes ages. I tried several converters using different codecs including Super which was recommended somewhere in this forum, but I always get the message that the format is not supported. I would love to have an external encoder so that I’m able to continue working on the Avid. Does anybody have a clue to accomplish that in the fastest and most painless way?

What codec are the QT’s in now? The best way to get fast imports into Avid is to create QT’s in a flavor of the Avid codec. There are a hand full of SD and HD resolutions, so it depends on your source and destination which one to choose. On a fast machine, a transcode to Avid codec should not take insanely long.

The QTs are in DV-PAL format and will import with the same project settings – files are between 1 and 15 GB. Is there any workflow idea to downsample the clips and relink them later to HQ media? Cheers
