Using Proxy files for editing low-data-rate source videos?
I have a client that has been supplying me 1080p footage from training videos shot on three HD PTZ cameras. The HD source files they are supplying to me are only about 6 to 8Mb/sec.
Up until now, I’ve been importing and optimizing the footage in Prores 422LT (102Mb/sec), but that’s way overkill considering what they’re supplying to me. I’d like to know what your thoughts are on importing and editing with using ProRes Proxy (45Mb/sec). I may give it a try and see what it looks like. If the end result looks at least as good as the source files, it would be nice to halve the data in edit drive and archives.
