  • Using Production Assistant with Mercalli V2?

Earlier today I posted about a problem I had when trying to install Production Assistant 2 trial. This post is related in a way, but I’m posting this separately because it involves a different question. The reason I want to try Production Assistant is very specific. I want to find out if the batch processing feature will work for a specific 3rd party FX. Here is what I want to do:

Almost all my video consists of short, hand-held shots. I use the Vegas Mercalli V2 plug-in to stabilize them. When you apply Mercalli to an event, it does an analysis of the movement of that event and generates an .avi file. This takes a while, depending on the length of the event. During that time, Vegas is tied up. When there are many events in the timeline that require stabilization, it can take quite a while to set there and apply Mercalli to one event at a time.

What I am hoping Production Assistant’s batch processing can do is to let me select all events to which I want to apply Mercalli, then start the batch process and let Mercalli analyze the first selected event, then automatically move on to the next selected event and analyze it, etc., until all selected events have been analyzed. I could walk away from the PC while it does this, or stay at the PC and work in another program, read e-mail, etc.

Will Production Assistant’s batch processing work in this way with Mercalli?

[Dale McClelland] “Will Production Assistant’s batch processing work in this way with Mercalli?”

No, it will not. This is because the processing in Mercalli is a separate step that involves interaction with the plug-in because you must open the plug-in and press the “Analyse” key. Production Assistant will not be able to do this. It only works with plug-ins that have presets that can be applied with no further interaction.

Thanks, John. I kind of figured that the nature of that particular plug-in would be a limiting factor in what Production Assistant can do with it. What I’d like to see is for Mercalli itself to have a batch processing option. I’ll send a feature request to proDAD.
