  • Using palmcorder / Canon HF100 with FCP

I’m going to be shooting footage in Lima, Peru for a documentary using my Sony EX-1. We’re considering getting an HD palmcorder to shoot a lot of alt/flavor/behind the scenes footage as well.

I’ve been looking at the Canon HF100, which I like for several reasons. It uses SDHC cards, which is what I’m using in the EX-1, so that’s convenient. Users overall seem happy with it, and the price is right ($500 with no storage).

However, one reviewer said that it is not supported by FCP, he had to ingest through iMovie. Anyone have any experience using this camera with FCP, or even a suggestion of another similar camera?

The information about FCS is either simply incorrect or obsolete.

    All the best,

Sorry, but requesting a bit of clarity:

You’re saying the review I cited is incorrect, and AVCHD as implemented with the Canon HF100 has a functional workflow in FCP(S)?

Or are you referring to some other information?

Have you specifically used the HF100 in Final Cut? Thanks, Tom…

You mentioned a review. I don’t know what review you’re talking about, or when it was written. AVCHD media has been supported since late versions of FCP6. It’s also in the list of tested file-based cameras.

    Tom,

Thanks for the citation. I forgot one important word in my email. It was a ‘user’ review on CNET, not an editorial review. I will continue to look closely at the HF100. Thanks again for your response and info, Tom.
