Using one title in multiple instances with multiple effects
Hello. My first post. I’ll try to be as clear as possible…
I’m using Premiere Pro CS5.
Here’s what I’d like to do:
1. Create a title with the text, for example, “Thank you”
2. Be able to use that title in multiple instances, but, depending on the instance, be able to change the color, font, drop shadow, etc.So when I change the text of the “Master Title”, all instances of it in all the different sequences will be changed textually, but their individual properties will remain unchanged (font size, color, title effects, etc.)
Not sure if my question is clear, but I would liken it WordPress where a database is created full of raw information, and then, depending on the template used, the raw information would inherit the template’s different styling properties.
I produce videos with, for example, reference numbers. The ref numbers are used in 15 different sequences within the project. The ref number in each sequence has different styling. Currently, I have to update 15 different titles all with the same ref # so that each sequence has the correct # with it’s individual styling.

Hi David
There\’s a button for that at the top of the title window called new title based on previous title. I have done quite a few title tutorials in the premiere pro video tutorials section of the Cow and show exactly how to do this in one of those. Check them out and you will find the solution.

I think that’s close to what is wanted.
But what he wants is not quite available here in software.He wants a dynamic style template.
Where you can change the source “style” (font choice, color selects, etc) and the style change will affect everything dependent on that style…
BUT
not the content i.e. the specific text within an individual the title….
the closest I think you could get to this in PPro…
would be actually design your titles based on two (or more if necessary title objects)
In the case of a lower third….
Create the background lower 3rd elements as one title
then create the set type as a different object.
then layer them together on on the Ppro timeline.That still wouldn’t let you globally change fonts in your titles
but you could dynamically update design objects they are sitting on.
As an aside, this can be achieved in the FCP/Motion workflow pretty easily.

Wise words! I agree, that is about as close as you can get in PPro, but it takes a bit of thinking through and won’t ever be a truly dynamic title style.
As for FCP & Motion – I have a pc, so it’s not an option for me. :o( maybe one day …
However, if you were to use dynamic link and add the titles in AE you could do this with pre-comps quite simply and just change the content of the pre-comp to change the style?

What are the steps to create an underlying PPro Template?
If you modify and resave the underlying Title template…
wouldn’t the style of the dependent children titles change?

I suspect this would be possible with a Photoshop document…
You would have to restrict the “style” to PPro video effects…

I don’t think it’s as complex as I likely overthought it.
If you create a template in the titler.
Then you base your titles on that template.
If you resave a new template version over the old template with the same file name…
then everything based on that template should change based on their dependency on the template.

…but if I understand the question (and there’s always a possibility that I don’t), he wants common text content…uniformly available for revision from a base document…but he wants all the documents in the timelines with different style attributes to be drawing the text content from this base document, but for each title on each timeline to keep its individual style attributes.
A template is designed to sort of “vault” style attributes… and I’m not positive that a title document is in constant observation of a template it was created from…I think it’s more like an “import” where the content/styles et al are transferred from the template into the working document and the relationship breaks… Alex, have you tried this? I haven’t myself, so I’m surmising at the moment…
That was why I suggested the text document be a photoshop doc, but that the attributes that “style” it would have to be either adjustment layers in the doc, with the doc imported multiple times, each respecting different adjustment layers for the “styling” or perhaps video effects inside PPro…
That way, when the text is changed on the Photoshop doc, all the documents should update their content…
Again…IF I understand the question.

Hi to you all. My issue is that in previous versions of Premiere eg 6.5 7, 1.5 you had to save the text file. This gave you access to it in another project without having to re-make it, and it was easy to find… How do you do this in CS5?
