  • Using numbers on laptop keyboard to move playhead

I’m editing for the first time on a laptop only, a Mac Air, and it seems I can’t move the playhead with just the numbers over the QUERTY keyboard. Like I enter “+ 1” or “+1.0” or “+30” for 1 frame, 1 second, 30 frames respectively and it usually moves the playhead those exact time increments. (My numerical correlations may be off but you get the point). But not so with my top row of numbers. Nothing happens.

The question is do I HAVE to use a separate keyboard with that side keypad in order to execute these precise playhead movements? Or is there a trick to making the top row of numbers work for this technique.
