  • using normal passes to adjust lighting in render

    hi all
I have a scene that I’ve rendered a beauty pass of and a shadow pass. I’ve rendered a third ‘normal pass’ which I’ve heard you can use to adjust lighting effects on the scene. However I’ve no idea how I can use it correctly in after effects. has anyone got any experience of using this in afx that they can share?

    cheers
    ant

Are you brining these passes in from another application? bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

basically theres a ‘normal’ preset in the render layers of maya – I’m using that to get a RGB=XYZ colour pass of the animation I’m doing. I’ve heard they’re useful for fine tuning lighting and I want to give it a try in my current wip animation. I can get the pass – it looks like the image in the link below:

I can get this kind of pass no problem but using it in after effects to adjust lighting is another issue. I’ve seen some bods using it in fusion and other comping apps to get lighting adjustments but I cant suss out how to do it in afx :/
