Trying to turn text into multiple square masks exactly like the image below.

I can’t seem to get the square shapes to mirror the curves of the text without painstakingly moving individual masks around, and since i can’t align the masks they are all off by multiple pixels. I can mask the shape using an alpha layer, but newton doesn’t recognize the multiple masks that way. Any ideas?

You made these masks manually in AE? I would try creating a grid in Illustrator with boxes at the size you want and then use your text (convert to shapes first) to “cut” the grid shape. That’s what I’ve done in the past when I wanted to turn something into cubes.
