Using MPEG Streamclip to make DNxHD Proxies for Avid
Hello,
I shot on the c100 mark ii and used the Atomos Ninja 2 External Recorder. I want to send proxy footage to Media Composer 8 so I’m trying to compress / transcode the large ProRes 422 MOVs into smaller DNxHD files. But I can’t seem to get the video file size to be any smaller than the original.
Here are the MPEG streamclip setting I’ve made:
-selected AVID DNxHD Codec as compression
-slid the “quality” scale down to 10%
-checking the “compressed” box under “alpha” in the options windowScreenshot:
Is there a better way to make smaller DNxHD proxy files?
Using:
MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b3
Avid Media Composer 8.6.1
El Capitan 10.11.6

Update:
My “resolutions” was 1080p, DNxHD 175, 8-bit. I changed to
1080p, DNxHD 36, 8-bit. File size went down a bit.Jeremy

No need to transcode ProRes422 files to DNxHD. Just skip this step and edit with ProRes422 files. That’s what they were made for. You’re just making things more complicated for yourself transcoding from ProRes to DNxHD, no need. They’re exactly the same type of file, they’re both i-frame codecs which means they were made for editing.
