  • Using more than 8 GB RAM on G5s… Is it Possible?

Now that 2 GB RAM DIMMs are available for G5s, does anyone know if you could populate an 8-slot G5 with 8 – 2 GB DIMMs and have 16 GB available? I am posing this question in the context of using Tiger, not any previous OS version.

I ask this question, because with Tiger applications can grab many GBs each of “RAM cache” (OS controls this in Tiger). Obviously, if one is running Motion 2, etc., it would be nice to let each application use a few GBs of RAM.

In the past, Apple specs always listed maximum RAM amounts based on what was available at the time a new Mac was released.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have heard that 2 gig sticks work in the G5, though I have not tried it myself.
