  • Using monitor and preview screen

    Hi everybody

I have been using the 5D for quite a while but always end up
with the same problem when i’m on a production.

I shoot using zacuto gear and especially the Zfinder
Usually when I work with a director, he usually wants to see what i’m
shooting in a video monitor while i’m filming it.
But when you plug in a monitor through the HDMI
output you can no longer see anything since the preview screen on the DSLR shuts down instantly.
I’ve never managed to find a good solution to fix that issue

Anybody out there with a good one ???
Love, respect and admiration to anyone who can help me out

    Thank you

Yeah that’s a bitch isn’t it? I suppose it would be best just to use a small on camera monitor with a HDMI splitter and run a lead to the other large monitor.

    I’ve seen that work too.

A colleague of mine is due to prep a show on a 5D MkII using an on-board monitor and splitter situation. Once I hear how it goes for him I will see what I can do about typing his success or hardship here for present info and future progeny.

If anyone here has updated info on the workflow and can beat me to it I too would like to hear about it.
