Using mocha tracking with red giant particular
Greetings all.
I’m a novice that has been playing with AE on and off for about a year with random things being made. Most of it comes from tutorials online, however I’ve had no luck in searching for what I’m trying to do.
My current project(for my 5 year old) involves having a red giant “particular” animation start flowing from her shoulder, circling the arm down to her hand while the camera slowly pans to show what the arm is pointing at. An example would be magic flowing around the arm before coming out of the hand, and then the camera follows the magic coming out.
It’s a very short amount of time, meaning about 5 seconds. Unfortunately the camera wasn’t stationary so there is movement from the camera and the child. Since I need the particles to rotate around the arm, I decided to track the arm in mocha so it can be it’s own mask. Now that I’ve started using a motion path for the particles, I feel like I should be able to somehow use the tracking data or mask to tell the particles where to be instead of key framing it manually. Maybe using an expression to say “Start emitter a certain distance from a tracked point on the arm, then have particles follow down and around other points while keeping a certain distance away til reaching the end”?
I’m sure all of my steps make my newbieness apparent, so any assistance with pointing me towards a better method or idea would be greatly appreciated.

You can apply the tracking data to a null object and then reference that null with expressions to drive your emitter, but there’s no 3d data so you’ll have to just put whatever values work in the z axis.
