using “merge clips” to sync DATs to already cut sequence?
I have a short film already cut from 3 digitized reels. The DAT tapes finally came in, and I need to lay in the new audio. Is there a way to sync and merge the new audio to the source reels and have the clips in the timeline reference the new merged reels?
My other option would be to sync, merge, render out, and replace footage, but I’m hoping there’s a better way.

What you’d like to avoid, is the only way I know of to do this. Be glad it’s a “short” film…
