  • Using Lathe to make a bottle

Trying to put together a bar scene, and have read several places that the easiest way to model a bottle is to trace half it’s outline with a belzier pen tool, and then drop the spline into a lathe. I have done the pen tool, but for some reason instead of making a nice double (I’ve used this in the past and don’t remember having problems) I get a big ring with the edge in the shape of my bottle, I’ve included a file, I’m sure I’m just missing a setting somewhere

The rotation axis of the spline you want to use has to be aligned with the Y axis of the Lathe object. In your case the spline is way off on the X axis relative to the Lathe.

You need to draw your spline so that what will be the center axis of the bottle aligns with the scene’s Y axis (green arrow). Then when you add a lathe object, and drop the spline into it as a child, the center axes of both will be aligned and the lathe will sweep the spline around that center giving you the bottle shape. You can then move the lathe object wherever you want.

(Edit: I didn’t see Adam’s response until I finished mine.)
