Using Instant HD-1st I need to convert interlaced footage
Posted by Cherie O’connor on July 26, 2007 at 7:21 pmI need to up rez uncompressed video 29.97 720×486 to 864×480
I bought Instand HD as I read good things, one thing though it only works
if you are using progressive footage.
How can I convert my interlaced footage to progressive to make this plug in work
for me.Thanks

Thanks”This is the default setting for most renders in AE. One step that I would add to Roland’s suggestion is to check and make sure that AE is interpreting the footage you import correctly. Check the field order of the footage in Interpret Footage (select the footage in the project panel and press cmd+F). If it’s not set properly then you should set it and AE will de-interlace your footage.
Then when you render out click on the Render Settings and make sure that Field Render is set to Off. If it’s on you will see the fields rendering in the render queue instead of frames (i.e. 1L, 1U, 2L, 2U instead of 1, 2).

July 26, 2007 at 8:29 pmI’ve done all of this, but I can’t see any difference when I apply
Instant HD…I move all the settings to different combo’s and nothing I do seems to make a difference.Any suggestions?…is the effect that subtle?

The effect is that you will not have fields in your footage…
…This can be subtle if there isn’t much motion in your footage or it could be very obvious with fast pans or motion through the frame. Are you sure your footage was interlaced to begin with?

July 26, 2007 at 8:51 pmThe reason why I’m de-interlacing my footage is to use Instant HD
after following your steps, it still seems as though I’m not getting any results from RedGiants plug in…thats why I asked if the effect was that subtle, I’m sorry I was refering to Instant HDAny suggestions for that
Apparently Instant HD will only work on progressive footage -

I’m not familiar with the plug-in. I would recommend getting in touch with Red Giant or checking the manual. Sorry I can’t be of more help there, I was just trying to help you get progressive footage =)

July 26, 2007 at 9:53 pmif you would like to reinterlace your widescreen sd footage after running it through instant hd, you may want to convert your interlaced footage to 60p rather than 30p, that way you’ll still have the data from other fields to use when you reinterlace after up-rezing.

July 26, 2007 at 9:56 pmI tried it a whle back. The manual is pretty short and specific. Go and have a quick read. It provides acceptable quality for live footage but isn’t ready for prime time for graphics with alpha channels.
