Activity Forums Panasonic Cameras Using HVX as a firewire device

    Hi,

The station that Shane was in had an AJ-HD1400 and it was through this machine that there was timeline playback. The HVX cannot take 1394 in and play out HD material. The ASICs just get too warm and thus it is not a feature of the camera.

Victor was using that deck. I as doing the P2 workflow.

Then what signal was going to the big monitor?

If you play out of the HVX, you can get HD out of its component output. If you were playing off of the Tower, it may have been a Kona Card in the Tower for the playback, I think or did you have an AJ-HD1200 on your station? I didn’t wire that station so I am not absolutely certain, the only thing I do know is the I cannot feed the timeline via 1394 to the HVX and have it play out through the component analog outputs in High Definition.

[Jan Crittenden Livingston] “the only thing I do know is the I cannot feed the timeline via 1394 to the HVX and have it play out through the component analog outputs in High Definition.”

    Thanks Jan.

That was my understanding. I just though Shane was on to something that none of us knew about.

[Shane Ross] “You can send the HD signal thru firewire to the camera,

    Correct.

then from the camera via component to an HD monitor.
Not correct. No HD output from firewire input.

There is also SVHS, but that isn’t HD.”

Correct, but S-video or Composite are the only signals that work when using firewire input in HD.
