  • Using HDTV as external monitor

I haven’t seen any updated articles about this…

I just got FCP Studio 3 and an HDTV set and I’m looking for the simplest way to use my TV as an external viewing monitor so that people don’t have to look over my shoulder as I edit. What’s the best solution to do this?

    Thanks!

The entire Matrox MXO2 line of I/O devices work with either laptops or towers.

You need an I/O device to output from FCP to an external monitor (HDMI or component is the most likely for an HD TV).

Most common cards for FCP are Kona, Decklink or Matrox. MOTU also have some I/O options but I have never seen feedback from anyone using MOTU. You will need to study the various options to determine which best suits your needs.

You can get a DVI to HDMI converter and make the TV a second computer display…then use Digital Cinema Preview. It won’t be color accurate, but it will be full screen.
