October 20, 2015 at 8:45 pmYes, in my attempts to work it out.
Noah – could you explain what you mean? I’m still very new to FCPX.
Thanks

October 21, 2015 at 2:39 amClipID is not searchable, unfortunately. But Notes are, as well as shot/scene/take. ClipID is usually a high unique number that identifies that clip, no matter what the other metadata. It’s usually alpha numeric like:
060A2B340101010501010D4313000000B1F140F6564005D5008045822CB1422F
I would image you could export an FCPXML of your Event, add the ClipID to the Notes and reimport the XML. You’d then as searchable metadata within fcpx. I don’t know how exactly to do this, but my guess is that it would be possible with something like Text Wrangler.
For next time, I’d also test this workflow with the BMCC, and make sure the metadata field you’ve selected is searchable in X.
Another way to do this would be with clip name. If you name the clip PE_#####, you could create a smart collection called “PE” and have it search for text that includes “PE_”. Or a reel name that is “p.e.”
ClipID isn’t the best field to gather metadata to, in my opinion.
Marker text is also searchable if you can add markers to your footage that can get imported in to FCPX.

October 21, 2015 at 10:54 amThanks for that.
I’ve just looked in the BMCC metadata menu and i was changing the Project Name. This seems to come up as Clip ID in inspector on FCPX. Does that change anything?

October 21, 2015 at 11:29 amSince Clip ID is not searchable, I don’t think that helps you, unless I’m misunderstanding you.
I’m unfamiliar with the BMCC, but can you assign a custom reel name?

October 21, 2015 at 11:36 amYes. It seems that I may have chosen the only field that is not searchable – which as previously mentioned is the most prominent field on the BMCC metadata menu!

October 21, 2015 at 12:25 pmThere seems like there should be others, like clip name.
A quick look at the manual even shows a keywords option? Perhaps that will help create keywords?
Or “comment” perhaps will turn in to notes?

October 21, 2015 at 12:33 pmYes that’s what I mean – I have chosen the only field that is not searchable.
