Using effects in AE
I currently have a text layer and I’m looking to apply the CC Mercury effect onto it. However, I want to show the text first and then have it transform into the CC Mercury effect. Is this possible to do?

Difficult to do. Trapcode form might be a better solution fo you. If you still want to do it with Mr. Mercuary do the beginning of the transition manually: text layer with a transition to something resembling both your text layer and a beginning of Mr Mercuary and disolve again to a Mr mercuary layer bursting on top.
