Using DVD as a data transfer
I’m trying to move a couple quicktime files that i exported from FCP from my MAC to a PC, I’m just curious what you guys think the best way to achieve this would be. I’m considering a DVD, but I don’t think that will setup with the required authorization. Should I just put them all on my external and plug into their PC? I want to give them some sort of disc.
I know this doesn’t seem like a FCP question. But I went to Apple DVD Studio Forum and they only have 3 heads, while this one has 9. and you know the old saying..

Will they fit on the disk? If so, I don’t see why not.
What codec are the files? Not native FCP editing codecs, right?

I asked her what media player they used. She hasn’t gotten back. Is there a universal codec that I could do with Compressor? -

That tells me nothing, other than they are QT movies. WHAT CODEC?? What codec are you editing? And then QT CONVERSION? What codec did you CONVERT to?
Universal? H.264, Sorenson…just to view, right?

Sorry, I’m a bit unfamiliar with this type of information. Here’s my process:
Imported into FCP with DV-NTSC 48kHz
Sequence settings with Apple ProRes 422
exported video compression:H.264
encoding code:multi-passThen exported as a .mov
what do you think?

I think most PCs will be able to handle SD H264, but just in case, also download the Win version of VLC (a free media player)and offer that as well.
It will play H264 on a PC.

The number of heads is not as important as what is in the heads 🙂
The #1 question – what do you want to do with the files on the PC, if you will be just playing them H.264 is a good codec to use, but if you will be editing or encoding them for DVD use then you do not want to encode them as H.264, too much compression.
But in any case the last step to .mov doesn’t make any sense. H.264 can be played on Mac and PC. But if you are changing the codec again (,mov can be anything from uncompressed to video for a cell phone).
Your path is DV>ProRess>H.264>some QT .mov
If would recommend
DV source > DV export > the whatever the PC needs (H.264 for just playback or DV if you need to edit or encode) -
