Using drop frame and non-drop frame in the same sequenc
Hi,
I’m a newbie and I’m trying to find out if it is okay to use both drop frame and non-drop frame in the same sequence? I am an assitant editor working on a project shot in SD and HDV. The problem is 95% of the footage is in drop frame. When trying to capture via a Kona card to edit in DVCHDPro 100 using the 720p 59.94 preset, the clips are changed from drop frame to non-drop frame as indicated by the colon between the seconds and frames. When capturing through Firewire, FCP’s helpful scene detection “feature” will keep the drop frame timecode but sometimes slices up scenes that have no scene breaks making new clips where none exist. I had a problem after using Media Manager to collect a project onto a portable hard drive with some clips shifting in and out points. I was told it was because I mixed drop frame and non-drop frame clips in the same project. So I think there is a problem but it would be nice if it were confirmed.
We are working on a new Mac Pro using FCP 5.1.2 and a KONA LHe card. We are also using a JVC 720p BR-HD50 deck. The editor may need to work in two different places so the Media Manager issue is something we have to consider. This is for broadcast.
If it doesn’t matter if we use both drop frame and non-drop frame in the same project then we can move forward. Otherwise, any suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Lynne
