    Using Compressor to Compress 2gb file down to 20mb

    I need to compress a 2gb file down to 20mb or less. I’ve edited it in FCP7 added titles in AE and exported it again through FCP7 using Quicktime Conversion. The file is now 73mb but still must be smaller. When I ran the 73mb file through Compressor it expanded to 193mb. The clip will be posted on the Internet. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Barbara,

    File size = (Bit rate in Mb/s)/8)* seconds.

    How long is your video? I can tell you the exact data rate it has to be to make sure it’s 20mb. That doesn’t mean it’ll look good. Just that it hits your target.

    Thanks for responding Jeff,
    The clip TRT is 1:38. It still looks good at 70MB so I think it will be fine at 20 but I’m not sure how to get it there.

    At 94 seconds, you could encode h.264 at around 1.6 mb/s and get under 20 mb (I’d also advise using AAC audio.) I’d feel comfortably with SD…and maybe 940×540. 720 will probably get too blocky and I don’t think you should try full 10800.
