Using Compressor on clips in sequence:
Jeremy, or anyone else-
Do you mind explaining your workflow for using Compressor to process frame rate conversions of certain shots in a mixed frame rate sequence when you haven’t been able to convert clips before the edit?
There’s no such thing as a round trip to Compressor is there?
Is it possible to relink to avoid manually replacing the converted footage into the timeline?
To avoid processing the unused head and tail of clips, do you use media manager first?

It should be done before you start editing, before you put it in your timeline.

While Zane says this should be done before hand, sometimes that is just not possible or feasible.
If you have a handful of shots sure, by all means transcode before you edit. If you have hours/days of footage, i find its more efficient to process just what you need at the end of the edit.
No, there’s no round trip, it is a pretty manual process. I find the clips i need in the timeline, reveal in finder, then drag that file in to a batch in compressor.
Once compressor is done, i then go in and replace all the clips on the timeline. Theres nothing “round trip” about it unfortunately. I do wish that compressor could accept and generate XML files. It would make the process a bit easier.

dude, you ROCK…thanks for letting me know that I just wasn’t using my brain when thinking this is a MANUAL process…seems there’s no automating replacing all the clips after transcoding them…AND the importance of a PRE-production meeting is well in order ALWAYS…
