  • Using capture scratch with a “-av” suffix

I’m am “capturing now” from an uncontolled device. (A jvc camera and tapes with broken timcodes) . It captures fine, but when the deck reaches the end of the tape, the capture screen continues capturing or crashes. Either way, it won’t let me press escape to stop the capture. I have to force quit fcp to get out. Instead of a nice unititled qt file in the capture scratch bin, I am left with “untitled-av” which I can niether open in qt or import into fcp. They both give me error messages. But the files are the full size that the hour of footage should be. Is there a way to turn these 13gb files into usable capture scratch or are they the symbolic representation of a waste of an hour? thanks
