[Uli Plank] “Just for comparision: FCP does three HDV streams on a MacBook in RT.”

    Just remind everyone

The single defining factor in “streams of video” on any platform is how fast your storage can deliver the video.
I regularly show a demo of a project I worked on that proves a person can do 6 screams of 720p24 in FCP over FW, but 16 streams of the same exact content on fibre on the same computer.

What ups the ante is when I switch to a PCIe mac for the demo the express buss allows for me to add one more stream over FW but 6 mores streams from the same setup over fibre (thats 22 -720p24 streams DVCPROHD at one time)

NOTE: I use a kona card to handle the scaling of the codec in hardware on the timeline and that allows for about 25% more passthru than not having the card for playout.
