  • Using AVCHD and MP4 files while editing (GoPro and Sony Camera)

    Hi guys,

I am having a bit of trouble trying to use Sony AVCHD footage and GoPro MP4 footage in my edits. When I render the video in 720p there is horizontal “lines” in the AVCHD footage.

Watch this video, I use a combination of the both throughout the video.

Let me know how I can fix this, please!

That’s interlacing. So the footage that you’re seeing those lines on has two fields of video for every frame, and they should be blended (or interpolated) into a progressive scan render. Check your render settings and make sure it’s set to progressive scan and that you have a deinterlace method set to either blend or interpolate the two fields.

Although…I’m not sure how you would deal with it if some of your footage isn’t interlaced. I mean, I don’t know how you should set your project settings, and whether you should set them to interlaced or progressive scan. I’m guessing interlaced.

    You mean this:

That is interlacing artifacts where the subject moved significantly between the odd and even scans. Yo didn’t say where the AVCHD files came from, but was this clip from that camera?

The way how to fix that is to Deinterlace the footage,
Because what you are seeing is interlacing.
I use Borisfx Deinterlacing filter anytime i come across clips
    like this.

I’d say the first thing you should do is to turn off resampling. The next thing you should do is to change the deinterlacing from “blend” to “interpolate”. Since you are downconverting to progressive anyway (and the GoPro is already progressive) that should take care of this.
