    Hi –

I’m trying to do something that seems simple enough.
I want to use a matte to “wipe” on and off several titles I’ve created in Marquee. A woman is walking back and forth across the screen and her body is the wipe.

I tried this first using an edge wipe and it was clumsy. I also ran into quirky issues where I’d suddenly seem to run out of “range.” That is, the wipe would wipe no further.

So I moved on to an animate, which seemed like a better idea, since I could control the shape of the matte more precisely.

I have three layers of graphics above V1 where the footage is. I started on the top layer (V4) and all seemed to work fine. However, when I moved down to V3 and started working with the matte, it appears that I can then no longer see what I did on V3. As is the animatte above it is blocking what’s below. Also, when I finally got down to V2 (first graphic layer) I started to get “Effect does not apply” when I simply tried to drop the Animatte efx onto that track (directly, not with an Alt or Ctrl)

It’s always likely that I’m missing something simple, but any help would be appreciated….

    Thanks.

This isn’t easy to do unfortunately. Unless you use BCC, you will have to break apart your title so you can affect the matte independently.

That means step into your title, copy the two video track, then paste them on V2 (fill) and V3 (Matte). Add a matte key effect to V3.

Now you step inside the matte key, and wipe on your matte using either the paint tool or animatte.

throw the talent on the top track and animatte over your key.

    Thanks guys.

This morning, with a clearer head, I discovered that if I stepped into the
titles and put the Animatte efx on the fill layers, I could get the desired
result. Funny how things sometimes seem simpler after a good nights
    sleep!
