Using Animation Presets
I have just cracked open After Effects CS3 and so far it is great (quite the upgrade from 6.5) I have a project that I would like to try out some text animation presets and I haven’t had problems applying them but I don’t see how to modify them. Example is that I would like to have some text fade in while flickering, flicker for a bit then come in full strength (solid text). The Fluorescent light preset works great but I can’t control it. It would seem sloppy to have a duplicate text layer that uses a standard opacity fade on top to get the full strength. Plus I know in the future with other effects this won’t be a fix that would work. Any ideas on how to modify or control these presets?? Thanks!

After you’ve applied a text animation preset to a layer, select the layer and press UU. This shows all of the properties that have been modified. With these modified properties exposed, you can see what the text animation preset is doing, and you can start to tweak the properties yourself; you can drag keyframes around to change timing, modify property values, add new keyframes, etc.

One of the best parameters to use is Amount. Keyframe this from 100 to 0 and your Animator properties will stop animating, resulting in you rtext appearing as it is, without any animators in action.
Think of it as your main switch for text animator properties.
