  • using a three hour avi (please help)

I’ve been asked to create a dvd with menu that will play in domosteic DVD players. I’ll have access to encore which I’ve used before but my problem is that the avi file to be used is just over three hours long.

What would be the best way to setup this DVD? I understand 3 hours is rediculously long and it probably needs compressing somehow but due to the size and time transcoding, I don’t have many attempts of experimentation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you used a bitrate calculator yet? If not, this is the one I occasionally use:

You will have to put it on a dual layer disc (DVD9). I recommend Verbatim 2.4x. As for the bitrate calculator, I recommend going just under what it says you can encode it at. So if it says 5976 kbits/s, I would do it at 5800 kbits/s (5.8 mbits/s)
