using a dual monitor system in sony vegas with only one monitor connection

Vegas will use any monitor that behaves as a Windows Secondary Display. The question you need to ask is will the USB monitor look like a secondary display to Windows. No one here can answer that.

If all else fails, video cards with two outputs can be bought for as little as $24.

https://h10025.https://www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ae&docname=c00760067 this is the PC I want to run the dual monitor system on. Only one port out. The graphics card supports dual monitoring, but only if there are two ports. A splitter won’t work.
Someone suggested Vegas supports a firewire connection to use another monitor. I thought the firewire was in. Anyway, I have other computers with dual monitor capabilites. I’m just wary of using my “Music Computer” to also do video. That would be ideal, but the DAW has way too many programs and I want to keep that for only recording audio. Do you see any whay there could be a conflict between using Samplitude(audio program) and Sony vegas on the same computer. I have enough trouble keeping the DAW running smoothly without throwing other possible conflicts into the mix.

I appreciate your concern of putting other software on your DAW. If it’s not that stable to begin with, I wouldn’t tempt fate.

Just buy another graphics card for the other PC. You could use firewire but you’d need a firewire converter or you would have to use your camera to pass the signal through. Replacing the graphics card is the cheapest and easiest solution.
