Using a BR disc for many HD videos

It sure is. Blu-ray officially supports SD MPEG2 either NTSC 720×480 60i (29.97 fps) 4:3 or 16:9 or PAL 720×576 50i (25 fps) 4:3 or 16:9 so I would render directly to MainConcept MPEG2 / Dolby Digital AC3 from Vegas Pro using the DVD Architect templates and author your Blu-ray disc from that.

I’ve done exactly what your trying. My old VHS camcorder tapes date back to 1985 to present. I’ve burned them to BD with Chapters for each new date or event. It works great.

I’m always hesitant in storing media on Optical storage (eg. BR discs),
for long term storage for several reasons. Good external hard drives is
always my preference to what i have experienced over the years!

Optical media is supposed to have a shelf life of over 100 years (although that’s current just in theory for now). 😉 I’ve never had an optical disc fail but I have had hard drives fail… in fact, a hard drive can fail just from sitting around not being used.

Bottom line: everything fails… it isn’t backed up unless it’s backed up in two places and preferably on two different types of media so I would store to both optical and a hard drive to be safe.

I very much doubt they can stand up to 100 years shelf life as they
claim to be. For me, discs fails me often in several ways far more
than a hard drive failure. So ill go with my odds lol.
Not to mention the numerous discs i would need to store my huge gigabytes
of content on.

Hi John

Thanks for the information, but I am still not sure what to set my project at in DVDA , do I use a DVD template for the BR disc, or do I use the BR setting for the my BR disc. I ask because I am not sure the DVD setting will let me go past the DVD gig limit for the DVD.

You would set your Disc format to Blu-ray if you plan on burning a Blu-ray disc.
