  • Using 7 to X for PP XML file

Posted by Claude Lyneis on May 19, 2016 at 6:33 am

I am the only X guy on in a group doing a Doc in Adobe Premiere Pro. The goal is to transfer it to X so I can fine tune the edit and audio in particular. I have read 7 to X will also work with PP to X. As a first step, I constructed short FCP7 project, exported an XML file, opened that in 7 to X and magically it worked.

Should I expect that it will work when I get the PP XML and original files.
    Thanks, Claude

Most probably with some hiccups. Try to avoid doing it more than once.

Don’t so anything but a rough cuts and dissolves in Premiere. Keyframes, titles, solids, transitions, etc are all understandably unreliable. Color correction and plugins obviously won’t come across. Audio tracks can be a mess too. If channels were turned off or removed or panned, I wouldn’t assume they’re correct.

Thanks for the tips. I think the project will be in a fairly unsophisticated assembly without a lot of transitions. Still trying to sort out how 7 to X handles the original media and where it should reside so everything links up automatically.

Willing to wager there won’t be any “automatically” about it. But it shouldn’t be much of an issue. Have all your media in a directory and in X just click relink all and point to the directory.

Have only talked to one person who did this who wanted to do it again…

    Is there a better way?

Going from PP to FCPX worked reasonable well. Lost the titles and transitions and color correction but it was about 90 per cent there and seemed to be better than what I got opening the XML in FCP7. So I would agree it is OK for a rough cut, but not a final product. Thumbs up for 7 to X.
