  • Using 1 frame as static image, then crossfading

I have a talking head video clip for use on a website that’s far from ideal. I need to tack on a static image of the speaker at the beginning, because the image when he starts speaking (the portion I want to use) is no good for the static image (his mouth is open).

First, can I select a single frame to copy and then paste in order to increase its duration? I have had trouble selecting literally a single frame.

Second, I’d like to hear what you think is the best kind of transition or effect that’s the least objectionable when going from a static image to the start of a moving image. A standard crossfade doesn’t seem so good, but maybe that’s the best I can do.

I’m a newbie…. so any advice is appreciated. I hope I’ve provided enough info to elicit your advice.

Put the cursor on the frame you want. You can hold down the ALT key and use the left/right arrows to move frame by frame. Either that or zoom in on the timeline so that the left/right arrows only move by one frame.

Change the preview mode to “Best (Full)” and click on the “Save Snapshot” button just above the preview screen. This will save the image wherever you specify. Now add that image and adjust it’s length however needed on the timeline.

Thanks. The snapshot feature is part of what I needed.

Another question: I thought Alt+Right Arrow or Alt+Left Arrow was supposed to move one frame at a time, but it does not appear to work that way. Is there some other setting I need to enable to make this work?

ALT left/right arrow should move one frame at a time. If you zoom in far enough, simply using the left/right arrows will move one frame at a time.
