So I just added a drop shadow. Then dragged it around all over trying to decide on placement. Then I pressed undo. The shadow animated the dragging I had just done in reverse. WTH? Get on with the undo!

Has my system gone nuts again or is this universal useless eye candy?

Why not just reset in the inspector?

Undo will track back every move you made. I’d rather have that than an undo that undoes multiple steps at once. I wouldn’t consider what you’re describing as “eye candy”.

You wouldn’t call animating undos eye candy? What would you call it? There absolutely no point to animating undos. Most are fairly brief compared to the drop shadow nonsense. All trimming is animated in reverse when you undo. I hunk everything is. Not a big deal when it’s quick. But add a drop shadow and drag it around in the viewer with the mouse for a long time like you’re trying to figure out the right placement. Then hit undo. It’s bizarre!

Why not reset? What if you wanted the setting you had 3 adjustments back?

I was never sure if this was a feature or a bug.

Then I’m not sure what you’re referring to because I don’t see this behavior on my system.

The drop shadow or all undos? I’ll have to record the drop shadow thing.

This seems to only be the case with Apple’s built-in drop shadow filter. Dumbest thing I’ve seen in UI design for awhile!

You think this is a feature?

It feels like a bug to me.

I think it happens with something other than drop shadow, but I can’t find it.

All my trims and edits animate in reverse as well when I undo. What doesn’t animate?

I know it’s annoying if you drag around in the color chooser instead of clicking. It records a color choice every 1/3 of a second or so and for what seems like one action is a million undos. It shouldn’t record a choice until you release the mouse. Slightly related to the drop shadow I guess.

UI moves have always been accompanied by useless animation since X was launched. It’s one of the things that slows down faster operators. But the drop shadow issue is about the worst I’ve seen. If this is by design, then fire that programmer 😉
